For anyone preparing to take the German citizenship test, you’ve probably come across the official online test available on the BAMF website. While it certainly does the job, it feels a bit… old school. With everything moving towards convenience, I wanted to build something more modern and user-friendly—something that doesn’t feel like you’re stepping back in time. That’s why I developed my iOS app, designed to help users practice for the German citizenship test on their own terms, anytime, anywhere.
Why I built this App
The official BAMF test is a solid resource, but it has some limitations. It’s only available online, which means you need an internet connection every time you want to practice.
So, I decided to take all the available information and put it into a more modern, user-friendly app. My goal? To offer a tool that works offline, lets you track your progress, and gives you the freedom to correct mistakes along the way. Here’s a look at what the app offers:

The app includes the entire catalogue of questions from the official German citizenship test. You can go through them one by one, as many times as you need, until you feel confident. - Simulated Test Mode
When you’re ready for a challenge, you can use the simulated test feature. This mode randomizes questions from the official catalogue, just like the real test. It’s a great way to prepare under realistic conditions, and it allows you to see how you would perform on the actual exam. - Track and Review Incorrect Answers
One of the app’s most helpful features is the ability to track which questions you’ve answered incorrectly. These questions are saved in a dedicated section, so you can focus on them and turn your weaknesses into strengths. No need to hunt for the same questions again—everything you need is in one place. - State-Specific Settings
The test varies slightly depending on the German state you live in, and my app accounts for that. You can select your state in the settings, ensuring that the questions are tailored specifically to where you’ll be taking the test. - Offline Access
No internet? No problem. One of the key features of this app is its ability to work completely offline. You can practice anywhere—whether you’re commuting, waiting in line, or simply relaxing at home. All the questions are available at your fingertips, with no need to connect to the web.
